How far can syphilis go?

I have been in medicine for over 40 years. In all these years I have seen many, many people sick with syphilis. Each case different from the other. Nothing repeated.
However, on August 9, 2022, I received a WhatsApp message from a hematologist. It was about a young man with very aggressive lymphoma. Just an allogeneic transplant.
A donor was identified. But because the person had syphilis, the transplant was delayed.
