Abstract

It has been estimated that about 10 to 20% of patients with severe immune deficiency related to the infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and submitted to Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) develop diseases associated with the immune reconstitution inflammatory syn drome (IRIS), with a benign course in most cases and rarely evolving to death. In the present study, we report on a very uncommon presentation of IRIS related to infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) and that was incorrectly interpreted as progression of HIV disease due to the unsuccessful antiretroviral therapy.
